Some of you might scratch your head and say hmmmm…. Isn’t something else happening on that date?  And the answer is yes!  The second annual Jingle Jog will be the morning of the 13th @ 9:30 am on Man O War Cay.

At first we thought it might be a bit too much in one day, but Amelia (the brain child of the jog) thought it would be nice to encourage families to participate in both, and maybe spend the weekend on our island. How could I refuse! It’s brlliant!

So put your thinking caps on and be creative because we will have prizes !!!

I hope to see MANY MANY people supporting the Museum at this event!! If you have any questions, please call me @ 365-6599. See you there!!

What’s in a name??

Ok, I will admit it. I have WAY too much time on my hands waiting… And … Waiting for the sale of the new building to go through. So I’m constantly thinking about what we can do to speed up the process and what actually has to be done to the building to make it ready to move in. So it’s a good thing my friend and confidant is off the island or I would surely drive her crazy, if I havent already!!

So I’m cleaning house and driving my dog around (not in that order) Kind of pathetic I know. But during one of my endless drives (well not exactly endless, since the island is only 2&1/2 miles long) I started to really look at the homes on the island and the things that make each of them stand out. And that is either a name or some kind of adornment at the property entrance. And some of them are quite clever!.

I mean what would possess a person to name their property Sweet Potatoe? I’m really curious! It’s a really nicely done sign, with a bell and all, but why?? I kinda want to know…

And what does Falua mean? Maybe I should Google it?

I understand the need for bells, because even my own house needs something to let me know I have visitors. So maybe I should resort to the obvious like this one?

Or go with the perpetual vacation definition like,
Which always makes me think of margaritas or
Which implies we like to have fun… All the time!

Then there is the direct approach. No chance of mistaking who lives here, which I can totally relate to. I mean sometimes I just need to know where someone lives!

And this one is just covering all the bases

And what would an island be without water or at least the implication of it like,
Which sounds sexy just because it is in French. Or these…

And then you have the ones that just remind you of home.  Or maybe it’s just bringing a little bit of home to the island with them?

And some of my favorites……

image My dream property …..

I LOVE all of these!  I love that people are proud enough of their property to make it memorable.  And I’m proud to live in a place that we can all express our individuality.  And for those of you without signage….. What are you waiting for!!

Jingle Bells… Jingle Bells….?

Seriously??  Yes!! Christmas is JUST around the corner.  I know a few die hard Halloween and Thanksgiving lovers will be appalled by the mere mention of Christmas in October, and yet here I am blasting Jingle Bells!!  Let’s call it a gentle nudge to help you get in the holiday spirit.  And I say “holiday” to encompass all the wonderful traditions from now until New Years.  But for now I’m going to focus on Christmas just to get your mind going.

So I was thinking of fund raisers for the Museum this year and I came up with something that I think could be a lot of fun. It’s not an original idea, because I have scanned the internet looking for photos to inspire you and there are plenty out there, but I think it could be SO MUCH FUN!! How about a Christmas Golf Cart Parade!! All of us on MOW have golf carts and I gussy mine up at bit for Christmas anyways, so why not make it a parade/competition for the best decorated cart on the island! I think I have stumbled on perfection here folks!

Let me set the stage….. Golf cart, lights, tree ornaments, Santa!, you name it. Get creative, go a little crazy and have fun. I figure if I throw it out there early enough you can think, shop, design and create the cart of your Christmas fairy tale dreams.  (When we decide on the date and entrance fee I will let you know)

Here are a few photos I found on the WWW to help you get started.

How’s that for inspiration!!
I think this could be SO much fun! And a great way to celebrate our community. Last year we had an amazing Caroling night that brought the entire community together and this is going to do just the same thing.

I am also hoping to have the Christmas Open House tour this year too. It was such a huge success with everyone and I have had people ask me already this year if we are going to do it, so I would love to if we have enough people volunteer to open up their homes.

So what do you think? Isn’t his going to be an awesome Christmas!!
